Gifty for Shopify

Let shoppers send a gift without knowing the address.

Add a "Send as a gift" button to your product pages. The recipient enters their own address. You ship a normal order.

How it works

  1. A shopper sends a gift

On the product page they choose "Send as a gift", add a message and the recipient's name. They pay with normal Shopify checkout. No address needed.

  2. The recipient gets a link

It arrives by email, or the giver shares it. The link lives on your store. They unwrap the gift and enter their shipping address. No account and no payment.

  3. You ship a normal order

Gifty puts the real address on the order and releases the fulfillment hold. You fulfill it the way you always do.

What shows up in your Shopify admin

A normal order, with two differences until the gift is claimed: the shipping address is a placeholder, and fulfillment is on hold. When the recipient claims the gift, Gifty swaps in the real address and releases the hold. From there it is an ordinary order to pack and ship.

Questions

What is the placeholder address?

Checkout needs a shipping address, so Gifty uses a placeholder until the recipient enters the real one. The order is on hold, so nothing ships to the placeholder.

What is the fulfillment hold?

Each gift order is held in Shopify. Gifty releases the hold when the recipient claims the gift. Do not ship an order that is still on hold.

How does tax work?

Checkout charges tax at your store's highest registered jurisdiction rate, so it never undercharges. When the real address arrives, Shopify re-rates the tax and Gifty refunds the difference to the giver. It is a tool, not tax advice.

What about shipping rates?

You set a single flat gift shipping rate. Shopify does not re-rate shipping when the address changes.

How long do recipients have to claim?

14 days by default. You can change it in settings.

What if the recipient never claims?

When the claim window ends, Gifty cancels the order, refunds the giver and restocks the item. You pay no fee, because the fee is only charged on a claim.

What happens if I uninstall?

Shopify revokes our access, so Gifty cannot refund or cancel afterwards and open gift links stop working. A day later we email givers, emailed recipients and you, with a list of held orders to release or refund. Reinstalling within that day cancels those emails. Settings show how many open gifts an uninstall would strand.

Which stores are supported?

Billing currently supports stores whose currency is USD.

Does the recipient need an account?

No. They open the link, enter their address, and that is it.

Recipient addresses are deleted 90 days after a gift ends.
